A workforce that's mixed, mobile and stretched. Specific Microsoft and leadership skill gaps surfaced in the 2026 PDR cycle. CPD days alone can't cover them at scale.

The task

Add high-quality Microsoft training (especially Excel, Power BI and Copilot) and leadership development to the existing Thrive LMS. Without replacing what's already there.

Objectives

  • Close Microsoft skill gaps identified in PDRs.
  • Make CPD content available year-round, not just on CPD days.
  • Reach all 900 staff. Including teaching staff who can't easily desk-train.
  • Curate pathways (Power BI, first-time leaders) rather than full course completions.

Current challenges

  • Resources on the LMS are thin in Microsoft and leadership areas.
  • External CPD trainers are expensive and one-off.
  • Teaching staff stand all day. Desk-based training doesn't reach them.
  • Restructure complete. Merger expected in the next 3 to 6 months.

How AO created a culture of continuous learning.

AO is a UK retailer with 3,000+ staff across desk-based, frontline and industrial roles. A workforce profile not unlike Newham College's mix of teaching, support and estates teams.

They added Assemble You audio to support continuous learning for the people their LMS struggled to reach. Six months in, voluntary learning between 7 to 9am and 5 to 7pm (commute hours) was up significantly.

APM became Assemble You's first customer in 2022. They launched with 50 podcast lessons. The library has grown to 200+ curated lessons as a core digital member benefit.
